Type faster, starting today
- Rest your fingers on the home row (A S D F and J K L ;) and return there after every key.
- Look at the screen, not the keyboard. Speed comes from trusting your fingers.
- Accuracy first: a wrong word earns no speed at all.
- Practise ten minutes a day. Short, regular sessions beat one long one.

Typing Test Questions
What is a good typing speed?
Most people type 35 to 40 words per minute. Government exams in India ask for 27 to 35 WPM in English; office and data-entry jobs are comfortable at 40 or more. Professional typists reach 65 to 75.
How are WPM, raw speed and accuracy worked out?
A "word" is five characters, spaces included. WPM counts only the words you typed correctly, so mistakes cost you speed. Raw speed counts everything you typed, right or wrong. Accuracy is the share of key presses that were right, and consistency shows how steady your speed was from second to second.
What do easy, medium and hard mean?
Easy texts use short everyday words in lower case with hardly any punctuation. Medium texts are normal sentences with capitals, commas and full stops. Hard texts add numbers, quotes, brackets, symbols and technical words, like real office documents. Each level has ten different texts.
What typing speed do government exams need?
SSC CHSL asks for 35 WPM in English (30 in Hindi), RRB NTPC for 30 WPM in English (25 in Hindi), and SSC CGL for 2,000 key depressions in 15 minutes (about 27 WPM). Maharashtra's GCC-TBC typing certificate has 30 WPM and 40 WPM levels in English, Marathi and Hindi.
Is my result saved?
No. The test runs entirely on your device and nothing is stored or sent anywhere. Your result stays on the page until you close it; share the result card if you want to keep it.
Can I take this test on a phone?
Yes. Tap the text and type with your phone keyboard. Turn off auto-correct and predictive text for an honest score; a physical keyboard gives the most realistic result.
Does SmartByte teach Marathi typing?
Yes. The Computer Typing course covers English and Marathi typing, building speed and accuracy to the 30 and 40 WPM certificate levels, with data-entry practice for office work.
